Biography
Phedonas Phedonos was born on 18/06/1978. He graduated from the 2nd Kykkos Lyceum in Pafos and then served his military service. The mayor majored in International and European Economic Studies at the Athens University of Economics (A.S.O.E.E.) and followed up with a Master’s in international and European Studies at the same University. He subsequently studied law at Neapolis University.
He was an active member of the student movement in Athens and student organisation E.F.E.K. Athens. On his return to Cyprus, he worked as a Parliamentary Associate (2002-2006) and a private sector employee (2006-2014). He was District Secretary of the Democratic Rally (DISY) Paphos branch from 2003 to 2012. In 2011 he was elected Municipal Councillor and, in this capacity, he was a member of the Board of Directors of S.A.P.A. and President of the Town Planning and Technical Issues Committee at the Municipality (2012-2015). He was appointed by the ministers cabinet as a member of the Board of Exceptions from 2012-2015.
In the mayoral by-elections in Pafos in January 2015, he was elected mayor, securing 49.08% of the votes. On December 18, 2016, he was re-elected Mayor for a further five year term, securing an outright majority of 55.66%.
